About the YMCA of Greater Toronto
The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a dynamic charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. Our 2010-2020 strategic plan Strong Start Great Future calls upon our Association to invest in young people across their life stages to deliver on our vision of ensuring our communities will be home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults. This community health strategy includes a significant role for adults and older adults. Mirroring the region’s diversity, the YMCA offers a variety of programs responding to the needs of the community, including employment and essential skills, education, newcomer programs, youth outreach and intervention, fitness, sports and aquatics, international programs, child care and camps.

The world is experiencing a crisis of unparalleled intensity.
As people across the globe continue to live in isolation, one small but important part of their mental health and well being has been compromised – the ability to exercise.
Sport, the great uniter of people and nations, has been pushed to the sidelines, because one of its greatest virtues – bringing people together – is the very thing that we as a society can no longer do.
The NBA, NFL and NHL have all cancelled their seasons. Soccer matches globally have been cancelled. Marathons from Tokyo to Paris have been cancelled. The Olympics have been cancelled.
But a strange thing has happened. Around the world in every country, in whatever way possible, people are taking to the streets to do the one thing they can do. RUN. New runners, old runners, out of shape runners and runners with disabilities. We can’t run together. But we can run alone, in large numbers. We can put on our shoes and run. On our balconies. In our neighbourhoods, in our living rooms. We can run to preserve our sanity, our humanity. We can run to bring breath into our bodies and to remember what freedom feels like.
You might feel helpless in this pandemic. You might feel alone. But by doing the one thing you can do – run – you can make a difference in your community. Join #MyIsolationRun. Run for a minute or 20 or 60. Share your run story. Donate what you can at isolationrun.org. Every hospital across the country is on board. All you have to do is run, choose a hospital, and donate. Every minute you spend pounding the pavement is a minute you could be helping to save a life.
Ovarian Cancer Canada champions the health and wellbeing of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease while advancing research to save lives. Beyond The Wards Canada is an initiative that aims to highlight the contributions of under-recognized frontline workers that have been largely left out by mainstream media. While we don’t want to take light away from the healthcare workers who are tirelessly fighting COVID-19, it’s important for us to look beyond the hospital wards and see the heroes that occupy our day-to-day lives too. During this challenging time, our goal is to provide everyday heroes with extra support through kind and uplifting messages of encouragement, love, and appreciation. These heroes include the people we rely on every day, such as transportation, sanitation, and postal workers. We provide a platform where individuals can submit messages of gratitude through art, written notes, letters, and even performances. These messages are sent to the workers of their choice and shared across our media platforms. For more information about our cause and the list of different heroes we're supporting, visit our website: https://www.beyondthewardsto.com/. We’re have also launched our testimonial campaign, Stories Unmasked, which tells the stories of essential workers and the challenges they've faced throughout the pandemic, and we plan to launch an activism campaign by the end of the month.

The Canadian Cancer Society works tirelessly to save and improve lives. Thanks to our donors and volunteers, we’re able to fund groundbreaking cancer research into all types of cancer, offer support services to help people better manage life with cancer, shape healthy public policies to prevent cancer and support those living with the disease, and offer trusted cancer information for all Canadians.
Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French.
We began in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, launched to provide free, accessible support to any young person reaching out from coast to coast to coast.
Our focus was supporting young people experiencing abuse, but almost immediately, young people let us know they needed more from the service than one focus and one way to reach us.
For over 30 years, we’ve evolved our response and offerings. We concentrate on staying relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face, and we help to ensure our professional counsellors and volunteer crisis responders are ready to address young people’s continuum of emotional and mental health needs, from crisis situations to the everyday concerns of growing up.
Parkinson Canada is the definitive voice for the Parkinson’s community in Canada. Our purpose is to transform the lives of people living with Parkinson’s. We do this through research leading to better treatments and the end of Parkinson’s, advocacy bringing the voices of Parkinson’s to the forefront and support that helps people live well with Parkinson’s through education and services. A national registered charity, Parkinson Canada operates through the generosity of donors and is an accredited organization under the Imagine Canada Standards Program.
Our organization is a United Nations award-winning charity and our mission is to turn young people from 'educated' to 'educator.'
We take the talents of young people and turn them into one-on-one tutors for other adults and seniors in their communities. For example, imagine a 15 year old teaching a 50 year old how to use Zoom to communicate with their family in another country, or a 16 year old teaching an adult who is new to Canada some basic English skills.
Heart & Stroke is a leading funder of life-saving research, which has led to breakthroughs such as heart transplant surgery and a revolutionary stroke treatment that cuts the death rate by 50%.
We empower Canadians to live healthier lives — from preventing and controlling high blood pressure to getting more physical activity. And we fight for change that will create better health for all, such as reducing salt in the food supply and improving access to stroke rehabilitation.
Heart & Stroke leads the fight against heart disease, stroke and related conditions. Together these diseases are still the number one cause of premature death in Canada. Our work is driven by collaboration — with our volunteers and donors, researchers, people who have lived experience, healthcare professionals, governments and others — and guided by this strategy
