About the YMCA of Greater Toronto

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a dynamic charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. Our 2010-2020 strategic plan Strong Start Great Future calls upon our Association to invest in young people across their life stages to deliver on our vision of ensuring our communities will be home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults. This community health strategy includes a significant role for adults and older adults. Mirroring the region’s diversity, the YMCA offers a variety of programs responding to the needs of the community, including employment and essential skills, education, newcomer programs, youth outreach and intervention, fitness, sports and aquatics, international programs, child care and camps.

Program Description: Next Stop Canada Youth (NSCY) is a program that provides online settlement support, learning opportunities, and mentorship to pre-arrival youth ages 12 to 19 who are destined for Canada. This online program helps overseas youth prepare for immigration by providing them with the information, knowledge, and resources needed to quickly adapt and integrate into Canadian society.

St. John Ambulance NS & PEI

St. John Ambulance volunteers provide over a million hours of volunteer service to Canadian communities each year. Our nationally-recognized core community service programs include: Therapy Dog Program-  Volunteers and their dogs provide regular visitation to hospitals, seniors' residences, nursing homes, or a growing number of institutions on a regular basis. Through petting, affection, and consistent visitation, many people benefit both physically and emotionally from the unconditional love of a dog. Volunteers and their dogs go through an evaluation to ensure they are a comfortable visiting in these environments. Volunteer Medical Responders (VMR)- are a group of uniformed individuals trained to a minimum of Standard First Aid, who volunteer their time to provide First Aid services at a wide variety of public events (sporting, cultural, musical, etc.). By being there, SJA volunteers are “first on the scene” in the critical minutes until medical assistance arrives. March of Dimes Canada

March of Dimes Canada is a leading national charity committed to championing equity, empowering ability, and creating real change that will help the more than six million people living with disabilities across the country unlock the richness of their lives. We serve, connect, and empower people living with disabilities to participate fully in life — on their own terms. Our work is grounded in the voices of the people we serve, built on a foundation of service, and backed by a 70-year history of success. We’ve proven time and again our dedication to addressing the ongoing and urgent needs of people living with disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers. Born in the last great public health epidemic, we know that seemingly-impossible goals can be achieved and barriers can be broken. In the 1950s, March of Dimes Canada helped in the global effort to find a cure for polio. We’ve since evolved to become a recognized leader in disability service design and delivery, supporting people at home, work, and in their communities with unparalleled reach and impact. Now, inspired and guided by our community, we’re expanding our horizons even further. Together with our clients, partners, supporters, and allies, we are working to create communities in which people living with disabilities can not only live, but thrive in all they aspire to do.

Shelter Movers

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 31,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse. Volunteering at Shelter Movers means contributing to a mission that will make a meaningful impact on families experiencing abuse and supporting survivors as they transition to a life free of violence. It also means playing a tangible role in breaking the cycle of gender-based violence in Canada. We are growing and looking to add caring, compassionate, and dependable people to our team.
