All Things Active PEI is a social media presence promoting an active, healthy lifestyle for residents of Prince Edward Island. It does so by raising awareness of various events and programs happening in the community that ties into this healthy lifestyle. ATAPEI is present on Facebook and Instagram, hosting contests giving away hundreds of dollars in prizes and gym memberships. It also hosts Instagram "takeovers" every Friday where fitness hubs, restaurants, and active people can promote their businesses. ATAPEI manager, Cassandra Bernard, also tries a new fitness class every week or two and reviews them online, encouraging others to try new activities in the province.
Behind every person with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, there are hundreds of people dedicated to helping. The Alzheimer Society is the leading not-for-profit health organization working nationwide to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and advance the search for the cause and cure. The Atlantic Summer Institute (ASI) on Healthy and Safe Communities is more than just a conference, it’s a learning Institute, with a “Pathway for Learning” curriculum that offers a Certificate of Participation. The Summer Institute really engages participants, providing them with an opportunity to develop skills, learn and share knowledge and work together on programs, policies and services. Making the links between crime prevention, social and economic development and health and safety promotion, the Institute brings together; community groups, researchers, practitioners, educators, police and government representatives – all the people and sectors that are working toward creating safer and healthier communities in Atlantic Canada. Since 2004, the ASI has held eight successful 4-day Institutes on PEI, which have contributed greatly to collaboration throughout the region. Each Institute has engaged approximately 120 participants from across Atlantic Canada and beyond. The ASI believes in inclusion and reducing barriers to participation; therefore, we offer a number of bursaries/subsidies to participants to help with costs associated with attending the Institute. Simultaneous translation for the ASI is provided in French and English, and aboriginal events are included in the program. The theme for this year’s ASI will be Together Again: Regenerating the Power of Connection. ASI 2022 aims to increase understanding of the importance of infant, child and youth mental health for the whole of society, and foster policy actions to influence upstream investment in support of mental health.
