Movers and Drivers are the backbone of the organization, as they carry out the mission on the ground by moving clients’ belongings to safety. In a group of 2-7 movers/drivers, guided by a detailed itinerary, volunteers will load/unload the client’s belongings into a vehicle and transport the client to the predetermined location. Rental vehicles are provided for the move, and movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a significant impact through volunteering their time in a hands-on capacity for small chunks of time. The duration of each move varies, with an average of about 4-6 hours long from the vehicle rental pick-up time. Each move will be characterized based on the risk level and accordingly be escorted by local police, security guards, or neither. Our moves will often entail driving within and sometimes outside of the city. Further information will be shared with volunteers on a per-move basis. With our flexible volunteering model, you can sign up to volunteer on moves according to your availability.

I am coordinating a 3 day visit of the Peace Run to PEI end of May/Beginning of June. Please have a look at our website www.peacerun.org to get a good idea about what we are doing. We have 4 visits to schools set up during that time. We will run with the peace torch in urban and rural areas, offering the torch to anyone who wants to add their wishes or prayers for Peace. Prior to the actual Peace Run events in PEI, I would like to visit PEI for 3 days in early May (as early as possible) to search for and arrange 3 locations for an inauguration of 3 Peace Parks, which would take place during the 3 day Peace Run torch relay in PEI. This is the goal. I need a good driver with a car who would be willing to spend 3 days on the road, who is interested in supporting this particular cause. I will pay for all the gas. I would be arriving and leaving from the Charlottetown Airport. I would coordinate the precise dates with the volunteer. If you are inspired to volunteer for this request and or if you want more clarification about what will be needed, please write to me, Sutapa Adelman at sjcadelman@bell.net. If you would like to apply for this volunteer position please tell me a little about yourself.Thank you very much.

Are you interested in supporting our horseback riding programs for children and adults with disabilities? But perhaps you are beyond the frisky stage and need a more sedentary position? Come and join our dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer board of directors! We meet nine months of the year in Charlottetown, and at our AGM in Hunter River. We bring a variety of backgrounds to the board table (no horse experience necessary), but someone with fundraising experience would fit in well. Consistent attendance at board meetings important, and willingness to help on ad hoc committees and other service opportunities. We receive no government funding, so pursue grants from funding agencies, and are fortunate to be well supported by unsolicited donations from the community at large. For a great video of our riders in action, and lots of photos, visit our website at www.thejoyriders.ca and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/thejoyriderspei. For more details, please contact Daphne Davey, President, at joyridersinfo2020@gmail.com.
