Community Connector Volunteer

Description: Location: St. Andrews, St John, Moncton, and Miramichi, New Brunswick. This role is suited for any individuals with a desire and passion for supporting older adults in their communities. Each participant will be pairs with one of the volunteers in the community to learn about any challenges or issues they are experiencing. As well as connect them with any community programs or services that may be of interest or help them. This role may include accompanying the individuals to resources or services. In order to participate your must be at least 18yrs of age and experience with working with older adults is considered an asset. Meals on Wheels Volunteer

Description: Location: St John’s Newfoundland. The role of these volunteers is to pick up prepared meals and drop off to the clients during the pre-determined schedule. Ensuring safe food and hygiene handing. This program is to deliver nutritious meals to community members and report to a program coordinator. This role is approximately 1.5-3 hours once a week. Friendly Callers Volunteer

Description: Location: Atlantic Canada Provinces. This role is to provide phone calls with the participants in the program with the goals of making them feel like they are apart of the community and help to reduce the effects of loneliness. As well as strengthen their well being and independence. The roles involve regular calls to your assigned individuals having meaningful conversations and interests of theirs. You also must record and report each phone calls made to the individuals and if there are any health or safety concerns with them. Client Services Volunteer - Health Equipment Loan Program

Organization: Canadian Red Cross

Description: Location: Charlottetown, PEI This role allows you to work with clients and their health care providers for referral requests or the loaning and returning of health equipment they need in their homes to be independent following surgery or during illness. You will provide instructions on how to use the equipment and where they can contact for returns, repair, or loan continuation. Hours for this role will vary but are typically 3-4 hours a week in the morning of afternoon Monday to Friday. Emergency Management Volunteer

Event Volunteer, Hearts on Wheels (June 18)

Organization: Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada

Description: We are looking for volunteers to support at our Hearts on Wheels event on June 18th! Some activities associated with this role include: collecting donations at the front door, collecting donations for the 50/50 raffle, decorating before the event, cleaning up during and after the event, handing out light refreshments. Qualifications: interest in supporting a Heart & Stroke event in your community, interest in welcoming community members to the event, the ability to take direction or initiative when needed. What you’ll gain during this experience: a stronger connection to Heart & Stroke, the ability to support a fundraising initiative in your province, suitable experience to share on your resume. Time commitment: 3-5 hour commitment between 4:00pm – 9:00pm on Saturday, June 18th. Calling all youth ages 15-29: Learn to Teach Someone 1-on-1

Description: A free virtual summer program for students who want to gain leadership skills, enhance their communication abilities, learn to be more persuasive, receive valuable experience for post-secondary applications, and get volunteer hours.   This program has been provided to over 300 post-secondary students at York University enrolled in Teachers College. We’ve adapted it for all interested youth (ages 15+)!   Program dates: July 4th to September 2nd   Here’s what you will do:   You will meet with our team on Zoom and get trained on how to teach. You will teach at least 2 people (e.g. an adult, a senior in your neighbourhood) a skill you have, once or twice a week. It could be technology skills, English skills or something else. You will continue to meet with our team on Zoom 2-3 times a week. You’ll talk about your successes and challenges, and learn new skills.   The program is run by a subject-matter expert who has trained over 5,000 students to become amazing elementary and high school teachers. He has taught at York University, University of Toronto, and several US universities (e.g. UConn, Drake University).   Here’s what you will learn:   How to give clear & step-by-step instructions; Techniques for patience when dealing with challenging situations; Picking the right words to communicate things clearly and concisely; Changing your instruction style for people who learn in different ways; Creating your own lesson plans; Learning different ways you can evaluate if someone is learning what you’re teaching them; and Customized feedback, depending on your specific needs   Here’s how you will benefit:   Get lots of volunteer hours (over 100+ hours); Get a reference letter for a job, scholarship, or a post-secondary / teachers college application; Get a certificate and a LinkedIn recommendation upon successful completion of the program; Get real-life experience teaching someone (1-on-1 or in small groups); Improve communication, problem-solving, creativity and integrative-thinking skills; and Learn what University students are learning, for free.    Complete this form to tell us a little bit about yourself: https://bit.ly/35EdIoa    

Join ClimateScience as a Community Coordinator! [Remote]

We hope our way of covering solutions makes people excited to contribute to clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and other global-scale sustainability issues – beyond reusing their plastic bags. We believe education is the most powerful tool in the fight against climate change. POSITION Help fight against climate change by joining our team at ClimateScience! As a Community Coordinator, you would help recruit people to be a part of our team, actively participate in meetings and events, form partnerships with schools and organizations, and learn more about climate change through our website. You have the chance to gain new experiences and connections, opportunities to earn leadership positions, build your resume, and acquire skills, all while being part of a fun community! Community Coordinators must be interested in learning more about climate change and passionate about bringing climate education into their own communities, and a flexible schedule would be a bonus.
