Community Engagement and Research Volunteer

Through volunteering in a start-up environment, you will get to gain a wide range of workplace skills such as strategic planning, program design and interdisciplinary research skills for civil society engagement. GLOCAL Foundation of Canada is a non-for-profit organization that strives to provide innovative programs and cross-disciplinary resources to help Canadians better engage in public policy making and problem-solving. GLOCAL advances this mission of strengthening local-global understanding through research, events, and training programs. YouCount is the pilot project and one of the innovative services that GLOCAL offers to Canadians to enhance democratic participation. Our mandate focuses on fighting disinformation through direct engagement between Canadians and our political representatives at three levels of governments. We are working on a COVID-19 Module that aims to help Canadians face challenges given the pandemic and adapt to a new digital era. We are working to provide civic engagement support for the upcoming Saskatchewan Provincial Election. Job Description: Work closely with GLOCAL Research Analysts and supervisors to gather, enter, and analyze data on political representatives at municipal level. Conduct research and understand the political environment of the province. This includes but not limited to research on local issues, provincial policy concerns and regional politics. Provide support in GLOCAL’s social media engagement, create infographics and produce short videos on social causes. Assist in community engagement and outreach at local level. Special arrangements can be made for online group volunteering with collaborative tasks for schoolers. Qualifications: Successful applicants will have the following qualifications: Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A passion for creative writing, community engagement and partnerships development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel. Strong intercultural understanding. Ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible working environment. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability. Hours Per Week: This is a remote role and the volunteer is expected to dedicate 5-10hrs/week. Accommodation for flexible start date can be made. A minimum of 3 months commitment is required. Supervision: The successful candidate will work with the executive team of the Foundation. Ongoing support and mentorship will be offered to ensure holistic development of the volunteer in capacities relevant to the job. A weekly meeting will be scheduled for the student to receive support and direction, as well as targeted opportunities and guidance for personal growth and development, such as future career planning. We aim to make this a comprehensive learning experience for the interns. Learning Component: The volunteer will gain professional skills in research, business development, strategic planning, grants applications, communication, and leadership. Volunteers Needed for Gutsy Walk 2023

Description: Gutsy Walk is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s signature national fundraising event, with thousands of people across Canada coming together on one day to raise money to advance medical research and improve the lives of the 1 in 140 Canadians who live with these chronic diseases. This year, Gutsy Walk is on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The event location for 2023 is yet to be confirmed, but is not limited to Charlottetown or Summerside. It will be up to the committee to decide on a location. As a Gutsy Walk Committee Member, you’ll be working closely with a team of other volunteers to plan and promote your local virtual Gutsy Walk. Your efforts in connecting and engaging your community at a virtual level—whatever your volunteer role with Gutsy Walk—will make a big impact in raising awareness about IBD and finding cures. In particular, we’re looking for volunteers to support their local virtual Gutsy Walk in the following ways: Community Outreach –inspire people to sign-up and participate in our 26th Gutsy Walk Media Relations –connect with local media outlets to promote the Gutsy Walk Social Media –raise awareness about IBD and the Gutsy Walk through social media Fundraising –organize exciting virtual fundraisers in your community Corporate Sponsorship –engage with local businesses to promote donations of sponsorship and gifts in kind Stewardship –build relationships with Gutsy Walk participants and encourage engagement Time commitment: Approximately 4-8 hours a month, with flexibility around your schedule Attending a virtual monthly evening committee meeting by teleconference or online This role requires a commitment until post-event wrap up in June We’re looking for people who are eager to use their skills to help make our virtual Gusty Walk the best it can be. Front Desk Person/Greeter Volunteer Opportunity with DownStreet Dance

Description: Want to be part of a fun, casual, social dance community for adults on PEI? Do you have an hour and a half (or perhaps more) to spare each week? Come join DownStreet Dance’s team of passionate and dedicated volunteers and help the community take shape! We are looking for individuals to assist during classes and/or events, mostly in an administrative way. Responsibilities would include greeting students, keeping track of registrations, answering frequently asked questions, as well as tidying up afterward. Training will be provided. Various shifts available, starting at 1.5 hours. DownStreet Dance is located at 101 Grafton Street (upstairs) in Charlottetown. In exchange, desk volunteers are quite welcome to join the class they assist - for free! Classes may include: both old-school and modern Swing, various Latin styles such as Salsa Bachata, Merengue, and Argentine Tango, NY Hustle, Eastern dances like Belly dance and Iranian, Afro-Caribbean, Foxtrot and the Waltz, and PEI Step-dance, as well as Jazz, Ballet and Zumba. volunteer advocate - Game changers for achieving the Global Goals by 2030

On May 6-7, we will come together to focus on the game changers that are needed to get us back on track to achieving the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. You will be able to connect with volunteers and partners, learn new skills through interactive workshops, and hear from advocacy champions from around the world so you can grow your own advocacy strength. Immediately following on May 8, you will have the opportunity to use your newly developed advocacy skills to meet with parliamentarians in a ‘Lobby Day’.
